Timothy Murphy School (TMS) was established in 1985 as a State of California certified, not-for-profit special education day school serving boys with special needs. The school’s name was derived from the San Rafael Irish-born pioneer, “Don Timoteo” Murphy, who donated the campus property in 1853. TMS serves boys ages 7 to 18 years of age, most of whom are residents of St. Vincent’s residential treatment program. Many of these 80 boys attending the school have suffered severe abuse and neglect or have academic behavioral needs which cannot be met in regular school settings. TMS has a highly structured behavior modification program to rehabilitate these boys, plus career development and work experience for secondary level students.
