Timothy Murphy School (TMS) was established in 1985 as a State of California certified, not-for-profit special education day school serving boys with special needs. The school’s name was derived from the San Rafael Irish-born pioneer, “Don Timoteo” Murphy, who donated the campus property in 1853. TMS serves boys ages 7 to 18 years of age, most of whom are residents of St. Vincent’s residential treatment program. Students have emotional, behavioral, and academic challenges which cannot be met in traditional school settings. TMS provides a structured educational program in a nurturing environment that fosters a desire to learn, responsibility, accountability, and other life skills necessary to become independent, self-supporting members of society.
